Vizavance - Advancing Children's Vision Formerly Prevent Blindness Oklahoma VIZAVANCE .. ..........!" .. . ........ " """""" April 29, 2021 Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Dianna Bonfiglio (405) 848-7123 HEADLINE: Vizavance (formerly Prevent Blindness Oklahoma) Screens Local Children BODY: Oklahoma City, OK Vizavance, formerly Prevent Blindness Oklahoma, received an email from a mother expressing gratitude. Her son was referred during a vision screening at a local OKC daycare. In her letter she shared, "My twelve month old son failed the SPOT vision screening. I took him to an ophthalmologist who confirmed your findings. He was diagnosed with congenital cataract causing amblyopia. His vision was 20/80 in the left eye; after three years of treatment, his vision is currently 20/20! I am so thankful and blessed for your service." This child, along with thousands of other children who received exams and glasses as a result of a school vision screening, is doing better in school now. For this reason, Vizavance, formerly Prevent Blindness Oklahoma continues to work each year to help improve vision for the children of Oklahoma. "25% of school-aged children have an undiagnosed vision problem," reports Dianna Bonfiglio, President/CEO for Vizavance, formerly Prevent Blindness Oklahoma. During the previous school year Vizavance screened over 300,000 children throughout the state of Oklahoma. Each year over 35,000 children are referred with possible vision problems for a comprehensive eye exam with their local optometrist or ophthalmologist. Vizavance strives to educate the public on the importance of eye screenings. "Many children will improve academically with vision correction," says Bonfiglio. if vision is the problem, early detection and proper correction can prevent permanent vision loss and negative attitudes toward school. Vizavance's mission is "Advancing Children's Education Through Better Vision." "We want to continue to encourage school staff and parents to make sure children who are referred receive an exam and glasses if needed," Mrs. Bonfiglio emphasized. Vizavance formerly Prevent Blindness Oklahoma is the only nonprofit agency in Oklahoma dedicated exclusively to advancing children's education through better vision and eye health and safety. Through their Children's Vision Screening Program, and a 35-year partnership with the Oklahoma Masons, free vision screening will be provided at: Eufaula Elementary School on 9/1/2021 Many children in Oklahoma can receive free exams and glasses through SoonerCare, Vision Service Plan benefits provided by Vizavance, formerly PBO, or through their Vision Quest assistance program. Replacement glasses can be received through the Changing Life Through Lenses program. Infants 0-1 yr. old may receive a free exam through the InfantSee program provided by local optometrists. For information go to www.infantsee.org. For more information on your child's eyesight contact Melanie Gamble at Vizavance, 1900 NW Expressway, Ste. Please check your emails periodically throughout this week and next to see if your child's forms have been sent back to you for minor revisions or corrections. There have been common mistakes such as leaving signatures blank, not checking boxes on certain forms, etc. that should be relatively easy for you to adjust and re-submit. Like last year, our school calendar had built in “early out” days to allow staff to collaborate for problem solving and curriculum alignment. We have recently changed those days. For this school year, those days will now be “distance learning days” where we will conduct the lessons virtually and students will work from home. We are applying new techniques to our learning and teaching styles in order to be better prepared for potential extended distance learning. In the classroom, students are becoming more familiar with various online platforms that they can use to complete everyday assignments as well as access educational material to enhance their learning. For students that do not have access to the internet your child will receive a packet to be completed. Also meals will be delivered on those days if needed, please let your student(s) teacher know if your child needs a packet or a meal. Attendance for the distance learning days will be taken by returning the packets to school completed the following day or completion of the assignments through google classroom or SeeSaw. The dates for the distance learning days are: September 16th, September 25th, October 7th, November 4th, February 3rd, March 3rd, April 7th and May 5th. Also school will be in session on September 17th and Parent Teacher Conferences will be held that evening both virtually and in person. Please call the front office to make your appointment for the Parent Teacher Conferences starting on Tuesday, September 8th.
Elementary Parents: Your student(s) were given their School Safe ID backpack tag and parent car tag today. If you have students in Pre-K and K-5th grades you will have two separate tags. The Pre-K tag should be marked with a sticker on the back. You will need to make sure you have your tag hanging from your rear view mirror. This tag will be needed to pick your student(s) up from school at the end of the day. We are going to allow the older students to meet their younger siblings in the youngest siblings current pick-up location to avoid parents having to come to multiple pick-up locations. (with the exception of PRE-K, because their dismissal time is different.) Your child's tag has been registered by the school, so you will not need to complete that step. We will attempt to implement this starting tomorrow (Thursday, August 27th). Please be patient as we work out the kinks to this new system. If you have questions, please contact us at the elementary office.
Elementary students coming in after 8:15 am will need to come to the front entrance to have their temperature checked before entering the building.

Start date for Eufaula Schools has been moved to Monday, August 17th, due to extreme heat at end of week! Masks will be mandated for all staff and students, and at all school activities!
EES Parents: Here's some information that may help you in filling out the online enrollment forms for your child(ren). If your child was enrolled in our district when we left in March, he/she has been rolled up and is already a student in our system for the 2020-2021 school year. In order to have all updated student/parent information, we need you to fill out the online enrollment forms in the parent portal under the 'Student Records' tab. If you have received an email activation link because you sent Mrs. Hickman an email or we've helped you over the phone, then you should be able to access the portal. The parent portal is new to everyone this year, so you may or may not have already gained access to that yet. If you have sent Mrs. Hickman an email address on the Google Form that was sent out, and have not received an email, check your spam/junk folder and make sure it was correct. She has entered almost 300 to date. You won't know your username with out receiving that email. If you haven't sent her an email and don't know your personal username to your parent portal, you won't be able to access those forms until that it taken care of first. Most of the office staff with be in and out tomorrow as we still have professional development and meetings to attend, but we are working on as many bumps along the way as we can. Thanks for your understanding as we get things under way again!
Device checkout for students participating in the elementary virtual school option will be tomorrow from 8am-12pm and 4pm-6pm. Temperature checks and mask will be required before entrance.
Elementary Offices are closed today 08/10/2020 due to professional development.
Due to COVID-19, all medications will need to be checked through the school nurse by appointment. You will not be able to drop any medications off at the front office. She is at the elementary office this week from 7-11 by appointment. Call 918-689-2682 to make an appointment. This includes over the counter medications as well as prescription medications.
In order to help us with the online enrollment, please access the link below and complete the form. This will help us confirm we have the correct email address for you to access your child's enrollment. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVHe4anQ0AaLUhCAIDaSCSTYTagxNrMvSxeim5GiJZkMFJhw/viewform?usp=sf_link
We are doing all re-enrollment (for students who were enrolled at the end of school) through our online system. All students, traditional and virtual, will need to be re-enrolled for this school year. You can access that website at https://wengage.com/eufaula.
